Fines & charges are changing at Hackney Libraries

From 1 April 2026 some of our fees and fines are increasing due to rising costs.

Overdue fees

• books, CDs, DVDs, language courses and spoken word items: 25p per day (maximum £9.60 per item)

• no charge for under 18s

Reservation charges

• 60p for all items in stock in Hackney Libraries or the Libraries Consortium

• £6 for items from other sources

• no charge for under 18s

Lost or damaged stock

• £7.50 per item unless otherwise indicated

Books, DVDs and CDs

• no loan charge for borrowing these items

Computers

• use of computers and wi-fi is free for all Hackney Libraries members

Replacement membership cards

• adults: £1.25

• under 18s, senior citizens and people with disabilities: 65p

Printing and photocopying (single-sided)

• A4 black and white: 20p

• A3 black and white: 30p

• A4 colour: 70p

• A3 colour: £1.25
