Find a warm welcome in Hackney Libraries all year round

Our libraries are free to visit, open to everyone and have free wifi. You can use them to read books, charge your phone, and browse the internet. They all have study spaces, free storytelling, writing, digital skills and craft sessions and most are open until 8pm in the evening.

We have libraries in Stoke Newington, Homerton, Shoreditch, Stamford Hill, Dalston CLR James, Hackney Central, Clapton and Woodberry Down. To find out more about what’s planned at each library, visit What's On.

You don’t have to be a member to visit our libraries, but if you would like to join so you can take out free books and use the PCs you can sign up and find out the opening hours of each library here Hackney Libraries.

Community Library Service

If you can’t access your local library due to temporary or permanent illness, frailty, or special needs, we can deliver library material to your home. The Community Library Service is free and users receive a visit to their home every four weeks.

Kind Coats Scheme

During the colder months (November - February) residents can pick up a warm coat or donate a warm coat for someone who needs one at one of our Kind Coat Libraries: Stoke Newington, Homerton, Shoreditch, Stamford Hill, Dalston CLR James, Hackney Central and Clapton.
