Diwali

The traditions of Hackney’s Hindu and Sikh residents will be honoured at this year’s Council-funded Diwali celebrations. Diwali, the annual festival of lights, falls on Sunday 12 November, but is celebrated throughout the month.

London Shirdi Sai Baba Temple - Hackney’s only Hindu temple - has been funded by Hackney Council to host an afternoon of music, Bharatanatyam dance performances, and refreshments for all those who wish to mark the occasion or learn more about the festival’s message.

Diwali at Hackney Central Library

Hackney Central Library, Reading Lane

Friday 10 November, 5-7pm

An evening of Diwali celebrations curated by Hackney Libraries, including bhangra music and dhol beats, Bollywood dancing, light refreshments, plus henna hand painting, and workshops on how to make your own Diwali card or badges. 

Diwali reading lists and information points with books and films will also be available at every library in the borough. Residents can come to learn more about the culture and message of the celebration.
