Queer Tour of Dalston! (1/2)

  • Rio Cinema (meeting point) 107 Kingsland High Street London, England, E8 2PB United Kingdom (map)

Join Dan de la Motte and Lil Warren on this brand new Queer Tour of Dalston! Join us to celebrate Queer nighttime spaces, both thriving and much missed, and the Queer icons that live(d), party(ied) and plotted in this area.

On this 90 minute free walking tour, join Dan de la Motte and Lil Warren as we delve into the queer goings on at the Rio Cinema, contemporary nighttime spaces (standing strong in the face of diminishing LGBTQ+ nightlife in London) Dalston Superstore, the Divine and vogue fabrics, as well as the less likely spaces where queer mischief thrives, such as St Paul’s church, home of Duckie’s Posh Club. Things then take a more anarchic turn as we pop in for a metaphorical cup of tea at 359 Amhurst Road, the home of the Angry Brigade, the left-wing militant group whose members included Angela Mason, who would go on to direct LGBTQ+ charity Stonewall, and whose methods and tactics caused the ire of the Gay Liberation Front in the early 1970s. Afterwards we lament the now-lost lesbian spaces on Cazenove Road and honour local icon Marc Bolan. While previous tours have spanned Hackney’s Queer history throughout time, this one is deliberately rooted and routed in the poptastic 20th Century.
