EDDIE NESTOR MBE
Writer • Comedian • Broadcaster
A Hackney native through and through, Eddie Nestor MBE is a pioneering figure of contemporary Black British Comedy, acting and writing. With a career spanning decades across comedy, television and radio, Nestor has helped shape British comedy while creating an important space for Black British voices.
Nestor spent his formative years in Hackney, joining youth drama groups before beginning his acting career. He later became immersed in Hackney’s thriving comedy scene and, in 1991, co-founded The Posse, a groundbreaking collective of Black British actors and comedians who wrote and produced stage shows. The group became a regular fixture at Hackney Empire before Nestor went on to write for and appear in The Real McCoy, as well as appearing in Desmond’s, establishing himself as a household name. He has also built a successful radio career, presenting on BBC Radio while mentoring young people. He was appointed an MBE in 2018 for services to charity and radio.
Why Hackney Matters?
For Nestor, Hackney is part of the foundation of his career and a place he continues to celebrate. Eddie lived in Homerton and attended Upton House School. In October 2026, he will host Pioneers of Comedy: Meet the Next Gen at Hackney Empire, celebrating comedians who paved the way while introducing new voices to audiences. His work reflects a wider legacy of Black comedy writers and performers.
