Ceci n’est pas Hackney - The Exhibition

  • FILET 103 Murray Grove London, England, N1 7QP United Kingdom (map)

Across 18 months and 12 photo walks, more than twenty local teenagers and students have shaped and shared their perspectives on Hackney. Guided by industry professionals, they have experimented with mobile photography and self-publishing. This is their exhibition.

Each walk invited the group to step off their usual paths, to get adrift, and to capture what caught their eye with their phones. Afterward, they gathered at Bodney Road Studios to create a publication featuring the pictures taken that same day.

The project ends with a free, collective exhibition at FILET thanks to the support and curatorial advice of its co-director Rut Blees Luxemburg. The show, in partnership with Hackney Council, presents printed photographs alongside a video installation projected across the gallery window, extending the work into the street.

At its core, Ceci n’est pas Hackney champions urban walking and young people’s right to the streets; the photographs, like serendipitous revelations, are the outcome of a game we play.
