Hackney hosts launch for Office of the Windrush Commissioner
On Wednesday 16 July 2025, Hackney hosted the launch of the Office of the Windrush Commissioner to introduce the new Windrush Commissioner Reverend Clive Foster MBE.
Hackney gives Reverend Clive Foster MBE a warm welcome outside the Windrush sculptures in the Town Hall Square.
In July 2025, Hackney was honoured to host the momentous appointment of the new Windrush Commissioner Reverend Clive Foster MBE.
The appointment marks the beginning of a national listening tour for the Commissioner, which aims to rebuild trust with the Windrush generation and its descendants through meaningful dialogue and reconciliation.
To mark the occasion, members of the Windrush community from all across the UK gathered in the Hackney Town Hall to meet Reverend Clive and hear his intentions for his new role. Speaking to the packed crowd, he said:
“I want to extend my thanks to Hackney Council for so warmly hosting yesterday’s launch event. It was a powerful reminder of the strength and resilience of the Windrush generation and their descendants. I look forward to working with communities in Hackney and across the UK to ensure that justice is delivered for all those affected by the Home Office Windrush scandal.”
We also heard moving music from Jermain Jackman, powerful poetry from Rain Spiegel-Johnson and welcomed guest speakers of those affected by, or working for, justice of the Scandal.
