Join Tara Darby for an inspiring conversation about the importance of free football cages and play areas in cities and how they transform lives.
Join us for a inspiring in-person event exploring the impact of football cages in communities, as part of Tara Darby’s exhibition ‘The White Cage’ showing at Homerton Library for Hackney Art Week. This will be an opportunity to see the exhibition and dive into how cages and MUGAS (multi use games areas) bring people together, give room for freedom and expression and change lives in so many ways. We'll hear first hand from legendary Arsenal and England footballer Kirsty Pealling, who grew up on playing on this exact cage in Hackney. Her early childhood experiences turned into a glittering Arsenal and England career, where she racked up more than 30 trophies at Arsenal alone.
Kirsty will be in conversation with Tara Darby (photographer/ film-maker); Luke Billingham (Youth Worker/ Researcher); Dr Sabir A Bham (Founder and Director of Salaam Peace); Ben Corbyn (Co-founder of London Football School) and Jake Arnfield (Hackney Council Housing Regeneration and Delivery). Whether you're a football and photography fan or just curious about local culture and community, this is a great chance to hear stories, share your own, and celebrate these shared spaces and the people that use them.
Part of the Hackney Art Week programme from 4-14 June.
