Providing a historical overview of the Black activist movement in British schooling, education and academia with reflections on contemporary issues that persist and percolate today.
The discussion will delve into systemic racism and early educational marginalisation. It will examine how policy and mainstream media continue to undermine the struggle to combat racism, the impact of empire and the rise of far-right tendencies and champion grassroots educational movements who have always fought for structural reform.
This event will be chaired by Anjalika Sagar, the lecture will be followed by an in conversation with Kodwo Eshun.
