 Why Hackney Matters?

"Being selected as one of the 48 writers, storytellers and creatives featured on Hackney Writers feels incredibly special to me. I was born and bred in Hackney and have lived here for over 30 years, so this place isn’t simply where I’m from — it’s part of who I am. As the writer of From Hackney, With Love: An Intimate History of Gentrification, I’ve spent time reflecting on how Hackney has changed, what we’ve gained, what we’ve lost, and the stories that deserve to be remembered. To now have my own story and creative work recognised alongside so many other Hackney voices is something I’m genuinely proud of. It feels like a celebration not just of the work, but of the place that has shaped me.”
