ROMEO BREMMER BCyA
Author • Publisher
Hackney-born Romeo Bremmer BCyA is an award-winning author, publisher and entrepreneur who became a published author at just seven years old.
His writing journey began after his mother suffered a heart attack and underwent quadruple heart bypass surgery. Referred to play therapy, Romeo was encouraged to write down his thoughts and feelings, which developed into his first book ‘Life Without My Mummy?’ He has since written nine books, become a Director of LIT Stars CIC and Publisher and Co-ordinator of UNSUNG Online KidsZine. In 2024, he co-founded the Children’s Black Book Fair UK, creating opportunities for young Black authors to share a platform with established writers. In 2026, Romeo began studying at Queens’ College, University of Cambridge.
Why Hackney Matters
Born, raised and educated in Hackney, Romeo grew up using Hackney Central and Dalston CLR James Library, where he later revised for his GCSEs and A Levels. Seeing his name on the staircase therefore carries special meaning: “I hope another young person sees these steps and realises that one day their name could be here too.”
Did You Know?
Romeo secured two Hackney Windrush Microgrants to connect generations. His projects This Is My Story and A Taste of Windrush Hackney preserved Elders’ memories and recipes while involving young people in bringing that heritage to life, combining writing, food, storytelling and Black British history.
