Clapton Park TMO presents a BHM Film Night. ‘A historical look at life on Clapton Park Estate, Where are we now?'

A documentary screening and panel discussion on the 30yrs of Clapton Park Estate. We will look back at the conception of the TMO, and showcase the issues that inspired the change to Tennant-led housing. We will be taking a deep dive into the history of life on Council Estates, with a focus on Clapton Park, reviewing the pros and cons, and the overarching and tangible benefits of local residents, being involved in the management of their homes and the development and future of their community.

We will look at the challenges faced by BME communities with regard to housing over the past 30 years since the Windrush generation. The documentary was filmed 30yrs ago on Clapton Park Estate, just as local leaders, were about to pursue the move to a tenant-led housing estate. We intend to share with guests the types of progress that can be made by resident engagement and involvement and generate ideas and a vision of how residents can continue to have their voices heard in a positive way.

The panel will consist of local leaders which includes BME women leaders in keeping with the theme of this year’s BHM, in addition to a local Cllr and active residents. The panellists will present a submission to key questions, followed by inviting questions from the audience. In celebration of the 30yr anniversary of Clapton Park TMO entertainment and music will be provided by a local resident, and African Caribbean food; in a celebration of culture, will be available on the night.
