How do we make sense of environmental crises? This event brings together stories from people who have lived through volcanic crises on the Caribbean islands of Montserrat and St Vincent, shared through film and the spoken word.
The 'Over the River' chronicles are three short films produced by community participants on St Vincent, who use film and documentary storytelling to explore the cultural significance of natural hazards in the Caribbean, and the response to the volcanic eruption of 2021.
A documentary film from Jerely Browne tells the story of the creation of the 'Montserrat Murals' by schoolchildren and community groups on the island of Montserrat. These murals re-imagine and retell the modern history of this island, and its volcano which began erupting in 1995.
We will be joined by scientists and storytellers from the Caribbean, to celebrate the creative responses to and make sense of these crises.
